Architect, Commissioner of Romania at the Venice Architecture Biennale

Attila KIM

Attila Kim is an architect specialising in the design of museums, exhibition spaces and heritage buildings. His work has been recognised with more than forty professional awards, and he is the permanent architect of Romanian Design Week. Numerous international projects are associated with his name.

Attila Kim has served as Romania’s Commissioner at the Venice Architecture Biennale since 2016. His work brings together contemporary architecture, exhibition design and the reinterpretation of the built heritage in an integrated approach. Over the past years, he has been nominated four times for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, and has received more than forty national architectural distinctions. He completed his studies in Cluj-Napoca, the United States, the Netherlands, Budapest and Bucharest, and concluded his postdoctoral research as a fellow of the New Europe College. His projects include the transformation of cultural institutions, art cinemas and community spaces, such as the contemporary museum of the Plan B Foundation in Cluj-Napoca and the Hungarian House developed in the Sonnenfeld Palace in Oradea. His exhibitions have featured the work of artists including Brâncuși, Ghenie, Brătescu and Cantor. He has been the permanent architect of Romanian Design Week since 2013, and his concepts have been presented at design events in numerous major European cities.
