Dr. Judit Horváth, PhD

Museologist, Curator

Museum of Applied Arts Budapest, Centre for Craft and Design of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design

Dr. Judit Horváth is a museologist and curator, Head of the Contemporary Design Department at the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest, and Director of the Design and Craft Knowledge Centre at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME).

She has been active in the Hungarian and international design scenes for over two decades, with her professional focus centred on the theoretical and institutional aspects of contemporary collecting. Many of her exhibitions have been realised through international collaborations. She brings extensive experience from both the public and private sectors. She completed her doctoral research at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of Eötvös Loránd University, and later obtained an MA degree in Exhibition Theory and Practice at the Universität für angewandte Kunst in Vienna. She has been teaching at MOME since 2012, and from 2025 holds the positions of Assistant Professor and Head of the Knowledge Centre. She currently serves as President of the Visual Arts College of the National Cultural Fund of Hungary (NKA), and is a member of several national and international professional advisory boards and juries, including the international committee of the PULSE Design Award (Czech Republic). In her research and institutional work, she places particular emphasis on developing the methodological foundations of a contemporary design collection and on strengthening the relationship between the museum sector and design education. Her professional path is defined by a commitment to international comparative perspectives, museum renewal and knowledge transfer.
