Attila Turi

MEMBER OF THE HUNGARIAN CREATIVE COUNCIL

Attila Turi is a Kossuth Prize- and Ybl Miklós Prize-winning architect and President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He began his career as a close collaborator of Imre Makovecz and is regarded as one of the leading figures of Hungarian organic architecture.

Attila Turi is one of the defining figures of organic architecture in Hungary, whose career has been shaped by a strong sense of community responsibility, respect for tradition and a deep commitment to the craft. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Budapest University of Technology, then joined Imre Makovecz as a direct collaborator, contributing to projects such as the Hungarian Pavilion at the Seville World Expo, and the Hagymatikum Thermal Bath in Makó. Then, he designed a wide range of schools, community centres and industrial buildings, developing a distinctive architectural language rooted in regional traditions and conceived as a continuation of organic architectural thinking. Alongside his work, he also took part in the post-flood reconstruction programme in the Bereg region in 2001 and in the rebuilding efforts following the red mud disaster in 2011, within the community of architects of the Károly Kós Association. As lead designer and Managing Director of Triskell Ltd., his professional practice is complemented by teaching and the organisation of architectural camps. He has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2012 and currently serves as its President. His work has been recognised with numerous awards.
